How To Build A Greenhouse Out of Recycled Materials

Some might say that you aren’t quite green enough yet. I admit, I was hard-headed for some time, and failed to grasp how important it is to recycle. If you are looking for information on how to build a greenhouse, don’t ignore the recycled option!

Now when I go shopping I look for products that are marked as “certified recycled” and I now haunt salvage centers when I want to build something rather than go to building centers where you only buy new lumber, glass and brick.

Why do you want to build your own greenhouse? If you want to build your greenhouse to grow organic foods for the family, why not build it from recycled materials and materials you can easily find to salvage? I know that I feel better, as I am sure you do, that we are working to leave behind a better world for our children.

Before you actually start to build your greenhouse you need to build some sort of foundation to support the structure. Here’s a little secret – head over to the salvage yard where you can buy brick and concrete for pennies on the dollar.

If you look hard enough I bet you can even find a demo site that may have bricks and blocks you can take, and for the lucky few windows and door frames. Once you get your foundation laid, then you are now ready to build your greenhouse.

There are two ways to build with recycled material—using salvaged material or buying products that contain recycled materials. Not comfortable with a salvage yard – then head over to your local building supply and ask about recycled materials or “scratch and dent” items that are virtually brand new.

Most salvage yards will let you take what you find on a what you see is what you get basis. No one can argue that you can find a better deal on building materials such as windows, doors and lumber.

It is time to learn how to make a greenhouse. Save the Earth, save yourself some money and feed your family. I can’t imagine any better feeling than knowing your own greenhouse is made from recycled materials.
